“Rob Marshall more than earned his musical stripes with Chicago - and with Nine he, once again, delivers a sexy, all-singing, all-dancing treat. Guido Contini is a tortured Italian filmmaker, a troubled genius, who is pursued by the public and the Press, and a fascinating collection of women. Struggling to write a script and with his best years behind him, Guido is tormented by the ghost of his deceased mother, his foxy, slightly deranged lover Carla and by his final dream to once again be recognised for his genius. Moments of Guido's life are played out in glorious musical numbers by an absolutely stellar cast. We've got Dame Judi Dench who vamps it up and proves that she can possess a real on-screen sexiness and the same goes for Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas. As a peasant girl and object of Guido's sexual awakening, Fergie doesn't so much possess it as explode with it. It'll be no surprise to you that Day-Lewis is fantastic, and rather more restrained than we've seen him of late. Marion Cotillard is excellent as his put-upon but loyal wife. Nicole Kidman excels too as Guido's muse. A cinematic feast. I'm giving it four out of five - almost a NINE out of ten.” - Alex Zane, The Sun
