In collaboration with the Charlottetown Film Society, L'ipéen is organizing a special screening of John Ford's masterpiece, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. In our era of fake news, when gun laws somethimes prevail over civic law, this John Ford film has never been so relevant. A newly graduated lawyer (James Stewart) wants to civilize a small town in the wild west that has been tyrannized by Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin). Tom Doniphon (John Wayne) is Liberty Valance's nemesis, and as this lawyer begins to settle in he will soon change Valance's role in the town. Ford had amassed almost 50 years of work when he made The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. He mastered his art as few people have been able to do before or since. When Orson Welles was asked his opinion on who the great masters of cinema had been, he answered "John Ford, John Ford and John Ford." This film proves that he was right on all points.
